The male Ferruginous Pygmy Owl calls incessantly in spring, at a rate of 90 to 150 times a minute. One is reported to have called for three solid hours. This tiny tropical owl is rare and local in the United States, and the small population around Tucson, Arizona, is a great attraction to bird-watchers.
